It is a universally accepted fact that a person’s beliefs must be founded upon the intellect and our inherent morals, as well as basic and upright comprehension. This is why Islam forbids believing in things not corroborated by evidence. At the same time, we know that people – from the most knowledgeable erudite down to the most illiterate savage, and regardless of nation or ethnicity – are equally obligated to seek the truth and get to know and, subsequently, worship the creator of the worlds.
The Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali speaks of the role of Prophets in a sermon, where he says: “Then Allah sent His Messengers and series of His prophets towards them to get them to fulfill the pledges of His creation, to recall to them His bounties, to exhort them by preaching, to unearth before them the hidden virtues of their intellects and show them the signs of His Omnipotence..”
